James is a vain red mixed traffic engine made by Hornby. He was made using a Triang LMS 3F with altered moulding around the smokebox and extended frames.

• Although James was first advertised in Hornby's 1988 catalogue, he was not actually released until 1989.
• An illustration of James in his Hornby model can be seen on the bridge on one of the My Custom Engine books from Fisher-Price's former Wooden Railway US-exclusive item.
